Quality Assurance / Tester

Concurrent Systems (Pty) Ltd is a fast expanding company providing high-performance software to mobile network operators with a client base concentrated in Africa and the Middle East. The Company requires the services of a technical tester with experience in Mobile GSM networks to support the project team in setting up test environments, developing test tools and executing simulated GSM environment tests.

Minimum Requirements

The following minimum requirements are a prerequisite for applying for this vacancy:

  • A degree/diploma in IT/Software Engineering/Computer Science
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant testing experience
  • Solid Unix/Linux/Solaris operating system skills
  • Knowledge of Javascript and Shell scripting would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of using one or more relational databases
  • IP Network knowledge

Job Specification

We are seeking a candidate who will be able to critically evaluate project requirements and technical constraints in order to prepare, execute and report back on test plans and test cases timeously.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following accountabilities:

  • Preparing comprehensive test plans including test scenarios and test cases that cover all aspects of the functional and technical specifications to verify that the software products meet business requirements;
  • Preparing test environments and simulators for end-to-end simulation testing;
  • Ensuring system testing, integration testing and customer acceptance testing is completed, ensuring fully tested, high quality product delivery;
  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate testing and obtaining sign off on testing;
  • Building and maintaining a repository of test case definitions and acceptance test procedures;
  • Working closely with all stakeholders to coordinate test activities;
  • Contributing towards the enhancement of QA testing processes and procedures (e.g. testing standards, policies and methodologies);
  • Taking ownership of, and completing projects according to project deadlines;
  • Ensuring that test status results are properly documented and tracked, and that software defects are reported clearly

  • Strong SQL skills, including writing SQL queries
  • Ability to perform operating system and software installations
  • Ability to critically analyse project requirements and compile test plans
  • Experience with technical, functional, usability and regression testing methods
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem solving skills
  • Solid understanding of software production lifecycle process including software
  • Documenting and reporting skills
  • Sound understanding of testing concepts and the role of QA in the software development space
  • Testing, factory acceptance testing and customer acceptance testing skills
  • Attention to detail
